What is Crossfit?

CrossFit is a world class fitness regimen that is delivered in a group class format and coached by skilled trainers.  When you become part of CrossFit, you become part of a community.  No longer will you work out alone.  You will be working out with your friends who cheer for you and support you as you push through the workout.  

 

The CrossFit methodology is based on constantly varied, high intensity, functional movement.  

 

It is Constantly Varied in that we develop a new Work Out of the Day (WOD) every day.  You may never do the same work out twice.  On the way to the gym, your heart will flutter with anxious anticipation wondering what the next WOD will be.  We have sought to build a program that will best prepare trainees for any physical contingency — not only for the unknown, but for the unknowable.  Our specialty is not specializing. CrossFit is a deliberate attempt to optimize physical competence in each of ten recognized fitness domains. They are Cardiovascular and Respiratory endurance, Stamina, Strength, Flexibility, Power, Speed, Coordination, Agility, Balance, and Accuracy.

 

High Intensity also plays a central role in what we do.  All workouts are timed.  You are competing against the clock.  We have found that this is an incredible stimulus generating high intensity in our workouts.  This also enables us to set goals and track our progress.  CrossFit is empirically based so that all fitness gains are measured and tracked.  Not only will you be able to see the physical changes in your body, but you will be able to will be able to track the numbers and show empirical evidence of your progress.  High intensity has been proven to acheive rapid gains in fitness.  

 

Functional Movements are organic in nature, innate to our DNA and essential to our quality of life.  They are the movements that we perform doing everyday activities like lifting up our kids, or carrying the groceries, or moving furniture.  CrossFit seeks to prepare us to perform well at any of the everyday tasks.  CrossFit prepares us for life.  

 

The CrossFit program is designed for universal scalability making it the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience. We’ve used our same routines for elderly individuals with heart disease and cage fighters one month out from televised bouts. We scale load and intensity; we don’t change programs.

 

When you walk through the door, you will not encounter a vast sea of treadmills, elipticals, and nautilus equipment.  People walk through the door and say, "Hey!  Where are all the machines?"  to which I answer, "We're the machines!"
